Unhoused community members’ support services

Unhoused Community Members’ Support Services is an initiative designed to provide nutritious and warm meals to individuals experiencing homelessness in the local area. This program aims to bring together community members and organizations to offer not only food but also a sense of belonging and support to those in need. By fostering a welcoming environment, the unhoused community service support is a vital resource for promoting health, dignity, and community connection among participants.

APRI-Tacoma, along with Elijah Barrel Food & Resource Market, Greater Heights COGIC, and our dedicated community friends, works collaboratively to provide meals and essential resources to the un-housed individuals in our local community. We are currently serving these meals on the 1st and 4th Sunday of every month at 3 PM, held at Fireman’s Park, located at 820 A Street in Tacoma, WA. In addition to our meal services, our current project focuses on collecting winter clothing, along with snacks and other non-perishable items to ensure that those in need are adequately supported during the colder months..

Community Engagement Report:

APRI-Tacoma/Elijah Barrel Free Outdoor Food & Resource Market - January 2025 Report:

The APRI-Tacoma and Elijah Barrel initiative continues to make significant strides in addressing food insecurity within our community. January's operations have focused on enhancing accessibility to nutritious food and essential resources for those in need. As the winter season progresses, our team has worked diligently to ensure that our market remains open and stocked with a variety of fresh produce, non-perishable items, and supportive services. The community has shown remarkable engagement, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering resilience and support among neighbors. We are optimistic about the ongoing efforts to improve our outreach and expand the resources available as we move into the upcoming months.

During this period, we successfully distributed a total of 250 bags and boxes of groceries, ensuring that the needs of those in our community were met. As a result, 75 families received essential groceries delivered right to their doorsteps. In addition to this, we provided 115 hot meals, offering nourishment and comfort. Furthermore, we managed to repurpose and reuse 10 pieces of household furniture, giving them a new life for those in need. Our efforts also included registering and updating voters and contributing to civic engagement in the community. We distributed 2 FEMA emergency information kits to help families be better prepared in case of disasters. Lastly, we provided 10 encouragement reading materials, aiming to inspire and uplift those we serve.
